Siddhartha Gautama Buddha was born on Vaishakh Purnima, about 2500 years ago, at Lumbini near Kapilavastu, the house of King Suddhodhana of the Shakya dynasty. Some astrologers had already predicted Siddhartha’s renunciation from the materialistic world, but Shuddhodhana made several attempts to prevent him from becoming a ‘sanyasi’. That’s why Siddhartha’s marriage was also done very early. He became a father at a very early age too. Siddhartha Attained Enlightenment

It is believed that Siddhartha left home at an early age to find answers to his questions. Wandering continuously for many years, he met many divine sages and spent time with them, but he could not find answers to his questions. Proceeding on his journey, he was sitting in a trance under a tree near Bodh Gaya. That day was also Vaishakh Purnima. On that very day, he got the knowledge that leads to salvation and the knowledge to understand the cause of the suffering of the people.
