Significance of Mahalaya Amavasya 2023
Mahalaya Amavasya rituals are generally conducted to receive the blessings of the ancestors for good health, wealth and prosperity. Devotees who observe this ritual also get the blessings of the Lord of Death, Lord Yamraj due to which their family gets protected from all kinds of evil and negative energies. As per the Hindu scriptures, devotees who weren’t able to perform the Shradh of their forefathers within 15 days of their death or if the death date of the ancestors is not known, then the Tarpan can be performed on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya 2023. It is believed that on this day, the ancestors visit the homes of the devotees and bless them for performing Shradh rituals for them. If the Shraddh rituals are not performed by the devotees, then the forefathers return back unhappily.
According to Astrological science, the mistakes that the forefathers commit are then reflected in their children’s horoscope which is called Pitra Dosh. Thus, the children suffer from various obstacles, hindrances and bad experiences in life. The souls of these ancestors then wander here and there in search of peace and do not attain salvation. The best way possible to get rid of this problem is to perform the Shradh rituals on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya. By doing so the Pitra Dosh can be eliminated and the deceased soul attains salvation. The forefathers then bless the devotees and their families with all happiness and prosperity in life. If the Shradh rituals are performed in the holy city of Gaya, then it is considered even more sacred and peaceful.
