  • Wake up early in the morning before dawn and take a bath and wear clean clothes. 
  • After that, offer Argh to the Sun God while chanting Surya Mantra or ‘Om Suryaya Namah’.

  • Take a vow for the fast and worship Lord Satyanarayana.
  • Recite ‘Satyanarayana Katha’ and prepare sacred food, which is offered as Bhog to the deity. 
  • Fruits, supari, banana leaves, moli, incense sticks, and sandalwood paste are offered to Lord Vishnu, and elaborate arrangements are made at various temples during Satyanarayana Puja.

Birth of Lord Hanuman 

Chaitra Purnima is believed to be the day on which Lord Hanuman, the monkey god and an ardent Devotee of Lord Rama, was born. According to the legend, Lord Hanuman was born to Mata Anjana and King Kesari, who were Devotees of Lord Shiva. Lord Hanuman is known for his strength, courage and devotion to Lord Rama. It is also said that Lord Hanuman is an avatar of Lord Shiva. 

Wedding of Lord Rama and Sita 

According to some Hindu traditions, Chaitra Purnima is also the day when Lord Rama and Sita were married. It is believed that Lord Rama, along with his brother Lakshmana and his guru Vashistha, performed the wedding rituals in the presence of many celestial beings.

The Legend of Kamadeva 

In some parts of India, Chaitra Purnima is celebrated as the festival of Holi, which is associated with the legend of Kamadeva. According to the legend, Kamadeva, the Hindu god of love, tried to arouse Lord Shiva from his deep meditation by shooting a flower arrow at him. However, Lord Shiva was angered by this and reduced Kamadeva to ashes. Later, at the request of Kamadeva’s wife, Lord Shiva restored Kamadeva to life, and Chaitra Purnima is celebrated to commemorate this event. Hence, it is also the commencement of the Vaishakh Snan.
