Mythological Story Behind Vivah Panchami 2023

King Dasharath faced a request from Maharishi Vishwamitra, who sought permission for Prince Rama to safeguard his Yagna. Though reluctant, King Dasharath agreed, allowing both Prince Rama and Lakshman to accompany the sage. After the successful completion of the Yagna, Vishwamitra, along with Ram and Lakshman, returned to Mithila. During this period, Mithila’s ruler, Janak, organized a Swayamvar for Princess Sita.

The challenge set for the participants was to lift and string the massive bow known as Shiva Dhanusha, resting on the ground. The bow was so heavy and colossal that none could lift it. Vishwamitra then turned to Ram, who effortlessly strung and broke the bow into two. Delighted by this feat, King Janak joyfully married Sita to Lord Rama.
