Hariyali Teej 2023 Fasting Method

According to the Shiva Mahapurana, the festival of Hariyali Teej marks the reunion of Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. It is believed that by worshipping Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati on this day, their blessings are obtained and married women get blessed with good married life and the longevity of their husbands. That is why the Hariyali Teej fast is of great importance for married women.

According to the tradition of fasting of Hariyali Teej 2023, one should wake up early in the morning and take a bath. After this, the devotees should wear clean clothes and take a vow for fasting with full dedication for the entire day. Then the idols of Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati and Lord Ganesha should be prepared by mixing Gangajal and clean soil. If there is no Gangajal available, then you can take water from any pure river or pond, well, etc. Women devotees should then offer clothes, sweets, fruits, vermilion, incense sticks, oil lamps, etc. to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. Finally, the puja is conducted to receive the divine blessings of the deities and the Prasad is distributed among the devotees.

Significance of Hariyali Teej 2023

In Hinduism, every festival has its fasting and worship method as well as its special significance. Similarly, the festival of Hariyali Teej has its importance. On the occasion of Hariyali Teej 2023, married women go to their parent’s house from their in-law’s house. ‘Sinjara’ is a ritual that is observed a day before Hariyali Teej. During this ritual, gifts are given by the parents to their married daughter and her in-laws. This ritual gives scope for family reconciliation and strengthens mutual relations. On the day of Hariyali Teej, women take bath in the morning, wear new clothes, get ready and apply henna on their hands. Mehndi in the hands is a symbol of ‘Suhag’.

Then women sit on swings, dance heartily by singing folk songs and seek blessings from elders in their house. After this, the deities are worshipped and blessings are obtained by worshipping Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. Married women are believed to be blessed with marital bliss, good fortune, happiness and prosperity due to this festival. Fasting Story of Hariyali Teej 

Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati were reunited on the day of Hariyali Teej. According to the legend, Mata Parvati took birth 107 times to get Lord Shiva as her husband and after taking birth in the house of the mountain king Himalaya for the 108th time, her wish was fulfilled. Lord Shiva was finally pleased with Mata Parvati and accepted her as his wife after Mata Parvati/Maa Gauri observed strict penances and fasted for 108 births to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Parvatraj Himalaya solemnized the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.

It is believed that the marriage took place on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month i.e. it was the day of Hariyali Teej 2023 and on this day Mata Parvati’s fast was completed. Therefore, it is believed that Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati bless all the married women who fast on this day for the long life of their husbands.
